Iame Winter Cup Valencia 2019 | February 8th -10th

2019 is hopefully Dean Macdonald’s year. His first win this year was back to his roots in karting.  Before Dean starts his 2019 British GT season he decided to have a bit of fun and get back into racing mode by competing in the Iame Winter Cup in Valencia.

Dean has not competed at international level in karting for 12 months, some might say maybe not such a good idea.  Come on we are talking about Dean Macdonald here the local fifer who just loves a challenge.

There was a lot of high profile drivers with 90 seniors all aiming to become the Winter Cup champion 2019. Including the existing champion & also the current world champion.  The weekend got off to a great start the flying Scotsman shone in practise with nailing qualifying to start each race on pole.

Heat 1 well what can we say he was untouchable winning it by 5.382 secs

Heat 2 again another awesome start with an amazing win 0.267 from his team mate & 7.395 sec from the rest of the pack

The next 2 heats were going to be closer as by this time they were dealing with more tyre wear than others but it certainly wasn’t a disappointment.

Heat 3 an overall win by 0.554 secs & Heat 4 an overall win of 0.353 secs

There really wasn’t a lot to say about the heats as he made it look so easy and just managed to put his foot down and get away from any trouble.  Overall this put Dean on pole for the pre-final. Well I think you know what we are going to say another clean sweep win by 2.701 secs. POLE for the final certainly an awesome results.

The final eventually came once again no challenges for Dean he was like a rocket and just got the head down and got away, there didn’t seem to be anyone who could eventually catch him.  He made it look so easy as if he was out for a Sunday drive in the country. While the rest fought for 2nd & 3rd Dean brought it back with a lead of 2.249 secs.

Deano was back and certainly proved he was in a class of his own, such an amazing & talented driver and with the right backing he could achieve so much.

Dean will now work on his fitness and training for the British GT which starts on the 20th of April at Oulton Park.  Dean will be joining HHC Motorsport & teaming up with Callum Pointon.  They will be running the Mclaren 570s which Dean is no stranger too. Dean got the taste of winning after joining BMW at Spa in Belgium winning his first GT race.  He will be aiming for more wins this year. We look forward to following him through the season. We wish him luck in which hopefully looks like and awesome 2019 already.
